What is a trend-following bot

A trend-following bot (formerly the CTA bot) is an automated trading bot that uses multiple technical indicators to follow market trends. In essence, it runs automated quantitative strategies to profit from buying (going long), selling (going short), or both.

When to use a trend-following bot

Here are two strategies for deploying Bitget's trend-following bot:

Moving average convergence and divergence strategy: Ideal for trending markets. It captures trends through automated entry and exit signals.

Go long: Enter on a golden cross (when the short-term moving average rises above the long-term moving average) and exit when the opposite signal appears.

Go short: Enter on a death cross (when the long-term moving average rises above the short-term moving average) and exit when the opposite signal appears.

Bollinger Bands strategy: Designed for range-bound markets. The core idea is to buy low and sell high.

Go long during volatility: Enter when the price drops below the lower band (low point) and exit when the price rises above the upper band (high point).

Go short during volatility: Seize the opportunity when the price rises above the upper band (the high point) and exit when it falls below the lower band (the low point).

How to use the trend-following bot

1. Log in to your Bitget account and head to the homepage.

2. Navigate to Trade in the top menu, select Bots, and then choose Spot Trend-Following or Futures Trend-Following to access the trading page.

3. On the trend-following page, you can select your preferred trend type on the right. You can also choose a recommended bot based on metrics like 30-day APY or user count.

4. Click the Use button to view the bot details.

5. To create a bot, simply input your investment amount.

Let's take BTC/USDT as an example. After creating the bot, you can find your order in your running bots under spot trend-following or futures trend-following. Click Details to view metrics like profit, position count, trades, orders, and other data. You can also select Terminate to terminate the bot.

Final thoughts

Trend-following bots perform well in volatile markets, but their parameters are based on historical data and do not predict future price increases. When creating a bot, make sure you have sufficient balance to maintain orders, as these funds will be locked separately. If a cryptocurrency experiences unexpected events such as suspension or delisting, the bot will automatically stop.
