An Air India pilot caught attempting to fly under the influence; Canadian authorities demand investigation and corrective action

According to Golden Ten Data on January 3, before operating a flight from Vancouver, Canada to New Delhi, India on December 23, 2025, a pilot from Air India was found to be "under the influence of alcohol" during a breathalyzer test. The pilot was immediately replaced by a substitute pilot. The Canadian government classified this as a "serious incident" and required Air India to provide the results of the investigation and specific measures to prevent recurrence to the Canadian side by January 26, 2026.
