Amazon Enters Physical Retail, Plans to Open a Walmart-like Supermarket

Glonghui, January 10｜Amazon plans to open a 229,000-square-foot store in the Chicago area, selling groceries and general merchandise. This is a brand-new attempt by Amazon in the field of physical retail, drawing on the large supermarket models of competitors such as Walmart and Target. If approved by officials in Orland Park, a suburb of Chicago, Amazon could begin construction as early as later this year. Earlier this month, the village's planning commission reviewed the project, which has received support from Mayor Jim Dodge.
