Kenya-China Trade Agreement Delayed Due to US Influence, Reports Standard
Kenya Faces US Pressure Over China Trade Agreement
According to sources referenced by The Standard newspaper, Kenya's plans to finalize a trade agreement with China have encountered delays due to pressure from the United States, which has urged the African nation to reconsider moving forward with the deal.
The proposed agreement still awaits approval from Kenya’s cabinet, parliament, and president. This development comes as Kenya is also negotiating to prolong its involvement in the US-led Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a program that reduces tariffs on certain exports to the United States.
The report suggests that Kenya is being placed in a position where it must choose between deepening its trade ties with China or maintaining its benefits under the US trade pact.
