PeckShield: Crypto asset theft losses exceeded $4.04 billion in 2025, reaching a record high

Foresight News reported, according to monitoring by PeckShield, that crypto-related thefts in 2025 have reached a historic high, mainly driven by systemic vulnerabilities in centralized infrastructure and a strategic shift towards targeted social engineering attacks.

Total losses in 2025 exceeded $4.04 billions, an increase of approximately 34.2% compared to $3.01 billions in 2024. This includes $2.67 billions lost to hacking attacks (a year-on-year increase of about 24.2%) and $1.37 billions lost to scams (a year-on-year increase of about 64.2%). Approximately $334.9 millions worth of stolen cryptocurrencies have been recovered or frozen, compared to $488.5 millions in 2024.
