Trump announces 25% tariff on imported chips not used for US AI
Show original
U.S. President Trump stated that after the completion of the tariff investigation, all chips imported into the United States but not used in the domestic artificial intelligence industry will be subject to a 25% tariff. These tariffs apply to chips that transit through the U.S. and are ultimately exported to other countries for use in products such as data center servers. Trump said he expects to generate billions of dollars in revenue through this policy. Last year, Trump mentioned that companies increasing investment in the U.S. could be exempt from chip tariffs, but this time he did not mention any related exemptions.
