Netflix Expands Into Video Podcasts With Celebrity Hosts

Netflix is ramping up its focus on video podcasts, unveiling new projects that spotlight well-known personalities like comedian Pete Davidson and NFL legend Michael Irvin. These initiatives are part of the platform’s broader push to diversify its content offerings.

The company recently revealed two exclusive video podcasts set to launch soon: Michael Irvin’s “The White House,” which premieres on January 19, and “The Pete Davidson Show,” debuting on January 30. Both series will be available only to Netflix subscribers.

By featuring high-profile hosts, Netflix aims to attract a wide audience. Pete Davidson, who already has two successful comedy specials on Netflix, brings his signature humor and candid conversations to his new show, which will air every Friday from his own garage. Michael Irvin, a celebrated figure in sports and a central character in Netflix’s documentary “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys,” will offer in-depth sports analysis and commentary twice weekly, joined by notable guests such as former NFL star Brandon Marshall. Irvin’s show is expected to resonate with the platform’s large base of football fans.

These new originals will join Netflix’s expanding lineup of video podcasts, which also includes licensed content from major brands like iHeartMedia, Spotify, and Barstool Sports. Popular titles such as “Dear Chelsea,” “My Favorite Murder,” and “The Ringer” are now part of the Netflix catalog. Unlike on YouTube, these shows are not available in their entirety elsewhere due to exclusive licensing deals.

This move comes as Netflix seeks to challenge YouTube’s dominance in the podcast arena. In 2025, viewers are projected to watch more than 700 million hours of podcasts each month on living room devices via YouTube, highlighting the scale of the competition.

Despite these efforts, Netflix’s podcast library is still in its early stages. With countless podcasts already available on platforms like YouTube and Spotify, Netflix faces a steep climb to capture a significant share of the audience. The company will need to accelerate its growth to compete effectively in this crowded space.
