Trump links his position on Greenland to not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, according to European officials
Trump Connects Greenland Policy to Nobel Peace Prize Snub
According to two European officials, U.S. President Donald Trump attributed his tough approach toward Greenland to his disappointment over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize last year. In a conversation with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Trump reportedly stated that he no longer felt compelled to focus solely on peace efforts.
This revelation intensifies ongoing tensions between the United States and its key allies, following Trump’s controversial remarks about potentially acquiring Greenland—a territory governed by Denmark, a NATO member. Additionally, Trump recently declared a 10% tariff on imports from eight countries that have shown support for Denmark and Greenland, with the new tax set to take effect in February.
