US Promises to Reinstate Tariffs if Supreme Court Decides Against Them
White House Plans Swift Action if Supreme Court Blocks Tariffs
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer has announced that the Trump administration is ready to promptly reinstate its global tariffs should the Supreme Court overturn them. This move highlights the administration's commitment to upholding its trade agenda, regardless of the court's forthcoming verdict. In an interview with The New York Times, Greer stated that efforts to rebuild the tariff system would begin "the very next day" if necessary. The Supreme Court is anticipated to deliver a decision soon regarding the legality of President Trump's application of the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to enforce these tariffs.
