Researcher: Recent surge in Ethereum activity may be related to address poisoning attacks
According to Odaily, the recent surge in Ethereum network activity may be related to address poisoning attacks that exploit low gas fees. In the week of January 12, 2.7 million new addresses were created, a 170% increase over the usual level, with daily transaction volume exceeding 2.5 million. The Fusaka network upgrade in December reduced transaction fees by more than 60%, lowering the cost of such large-scale spam attacks. Currently, 3.8 million addresses have received such dust assets in their first transaction, accounting for 67% of new addresses. So far, 116 victims have lost more than $740,000 as a result.
