Trump Signals Renewed U.S. Leadership Amid Greenland Dispute
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that President Donald Trump is demonstrating renewed American leadership on the global stage, particularly as controversy grows over his interest in purchasing Greenland. Speaking about Trump’s plans at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland—where the president is scheduled to deliver a speech—Bessent remarked, “This is the face of U.S. leadership returning.”
The atmosphere at Davos has become tense following Trump’s push to acquire the autonomous Danish territory, a move that has unsettled members of the NATO alliance. In addition, Trump recently imposed steep 200% tariffs on French goods, further intensifying international discussions.
