Netflix Introduces Interactive Live Voting

Netflix has unveiled a new interactive feature that lets viewers participate in live shows by casting votes. This capability will debut with the live broadcast of the talent competition Star Search on January 20.

Subscribers can engage by choosing from multiple-choice options or rating performances on a five-star scale. Voting is accessible through both the Netflix app and TV remotes, making it easy for users to join in from their preferred device.

This voting system will be available to Netflix users worldwide. Votes are counted instantly, but there is a limited window to participate—once the voting period ends, no further votes will be accepted. As a result, only those watching live can influence the outcome; viewers tuning in later will not be able to vote.

Netflix began experimenting with live voting in August 2025 during “Dinner Time Live with David Chang.” At TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, CTO Elizabeth Stone announced that this interactive feature would soon be rolled out more broadly.

“If you’re at home watching ‘Star Search’ on your television, you’ll be able to vote for contestants using either your TV or your mobile device. Your vote can help determine which participants move forward in the competition,” Stone explained.

She also highlighted that this is just the beginning of Netflix’s efforts to make content more interactive, allowing subscribers to engage with stories and influence outcomes across both TV and mobile platforms.

Expanding Interactive and Live Content

Netflix has been investing heavily in live programming, offering shows like “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney” and “Dinner Time Live with David Chang,” as well as live sports events such as the NFL Christmas special and WWE broadcasts. In October, the company also launched interactive games for smart TVs. Now, by introducing live voting, Netflix is combining its interactive and live content strategies to create a more engaging viewing experience.
