Wonder, the parent company behind Grubhub, has revealed its acquisition of Claim, an app that specializes in restaurant rewards.
About Claim
Launched in 2021, Claim enables users to earn cash-back incentives at local eateries, which can be redeemed for both dine-in and takeout orders. Through Claim, restaurants can launch targeted promotions, attract more customers, and monitor their marketing performance using a dedicated dashboard.
Deal Details and Valuation
While the financial specifics of the acquisition remain undisclosed, Claim previously secured $20 million in funding, including a $12 million Series A round in October 2024 as noted in their announcement. Pitchbook has estimated Claim's valuation at $62 million.
Benefits for Grubhub and Its Partners
According to Grubhub, integrating Claim’s technology will allow restaurants on its platform to leverage advanced customer engagement and retention features. Diners using Grubhub will also benefit from enhanced savings and exclusive rewards when dining out.
“By blending an engaging rewards system with sophisticated machine learning, we help restaurants connect with future loyal customers. Claim is transforming the industry, and joining Grubhub opens the door to reaching millions more diners and thousands of new restaurants,” shared Sam Obletz, CEO and co-founder of Claim.
Grubhub has confirmed to TechCrunch that every member of the Claim team has been offered a position within Grubhub.
Looking Ahead: Expansion and Integration
With Grubhub’s backing, Claim will empower more restaurants to reach customers through tailored rewards, aiming to lower acquisition costs and encourage repeat business—all without adding extra operational burdens.
“Claim’s cutting-edge rewards platform gives our restaurant partners a fresh way to engage with in-person diners, complementing Grubhub’s existing marketing solutions,” stated Howard Migdal, CEO of Grubhub. “Together, we can extend Claim’s data-driven tools to over 415,000 merchants and help nearly 20 million diners save more at their favorite spots.”
Currently, Claim’s services are available to Grubhub’s restaurant partners and diners in New York City, with plans to expand nationwide later this year.
Grubhub also told TechCrunch that Claim will remain accessible to its current users via the Claim app and website for now. In the coming months, the company intends to unify the experience across both the Grubhub and Claim platforms for restaurants and diners, though specific details have yet to be announced.
For existing Claim customers, Grubhub indicated that there may be updates to the platform and reward distribution methods, but users can still expect tailored offers and incentives for visiting local restaurants.
