Trump halts tariffs on Europe following 'framework' agreement on Greenland
Trump Halts Planned Tariffs on Eight European Countries
On Wednesday evening, US President Donald Trump revealed that he would suspend the tariffs previously set to be enforced on eight European countries starting February 1. He attributed this decision to constructive negotiations with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte regarding Greenland, which took place in Davos.
Trump highlighted that their discussions led to the establishment of a preliminary framework for a future agreement concerning Greenland. He emphasized that this prospective deal stands to benefit both the United States and all NATO allies. In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump explained, "Given this mutual understanding, I have decided not to move forward with the tariffs that were planned for February 1."
