Tech Media: iPhone users begin receiving Siri privacy settlement payments totaling $95 million

Glonghui, January 25｜According to 9to5mac, an online technology media and blog focused on Apple news, at the beginning of last year, Apple (AAPL.O) agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over Siri “illegally and intentionally recording conversations.” The issue dates back to 2019, when Apple denied any wrongdoing. Although Apple has since worked to improve Siri’s privacy protection measures, it still decided to resolve the matter through a settlement. Compensation claims opened for submission in the middle of last year, and users have now begun to receive their settlement payments. To be eligible for compensation, users must have purchased an Apple device supporting Siri between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024, and experienced a “Siri accidental activation” event. Each user can submit claims for up to five devices. Although the $95 million settlement was expected to provide up to $20 per device (with a personal cap of $100), the actual payout amounted to approximately $8.02 per device (with a personal cap of $40.10).
