No intention for a free trade agreement with China, Carney states while Trump focuses attention on Canada
Canada Rules Out Free Trade Deal with China Amid U.S. Pressure
Prime Minister Mark Carney has made it clear that Canada is not seeking a free trade pact with China, especially as U.S. President Donald Trump warns of severe tariffs should Canada enter into such an agreement. Speaking to the media in Ottawa on Sunday, Carney explained that recent actions with China have focused on resolving trade challenges that have arisen over the past few years, particularly in sectors such as Chinese electric vehicles, agriculture, and seafood.
Carney emphasized that Canada remains committed to the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement, which obligates each member nation to inform the others before pursuing trade negotiations with countries outside the pact.
