Fed keeps interest rates unchanged, maintaining them at the upper end of the neutral range
Federal Reserve Maintains Interest Rates
The Federal Reserve opted to keep interest rates unchanged, with a 10-2 majority vote as anticipated. Governors Stephen Miran and Chris Waller both supported a 25 basis point rate reduction, aligning with previous expectations. Notably, this marks Stephen Miran’s final participation, as his term concludes this Saturday.
Chris Waller remains a contender for the Fed Chair role, though prediction markets now rank him behind Rick Rieder and Kevin Warsh. The latest statement and press conference reflected a slightly more hawkish tone compared to previous communications.
At the December FOMC meeting, officials had emphasized the presence of downside risks, but the current messaging suggests a subtle shift in their outlook.
