Labour Market Trends in December 2025
During December 2025, both the employed and unemployed populations saw a decline, while the number of individuals not participating in the workforce increased. Compared to the previous month, employment dropped by 0.1% (a decrease of 20,000 people), primarily among men and those aged 25 to 49. In contrast, employment rose for women and young people aged 15 to 24, and remained largely unchanged for those aged 50 and above.
The overall employment rate slipped to 62.5%, reflecting a 0.1 percentage point decrease. The number of unemployed individuals also fell by 1.0% (down by 15,000), with this reduction mainly affecting women and all age categories except for the 15-24 age group. For this youngest group, as well as for men, unemployment actually increased. The general unemployment rate edged down to 5.6% (a 0.1 percentage point drop), while the youth unemployment rate rose.
