Head of Verizon Consumer Division to Step Down After Company Announced Layoffs of 13,000 Employees

Glonghui, February 6th|US wireless carrier Verizon announced that Sowmyanarayan Sampath, head of the consumer division, will step down, and Chief Transformation Officer Alfonso Villanueva will temporarily take over the position. This executive change comes as Verizon, under the leadership of new CEO Dan Schulman, is pushing toward the goal of returning to profitability. In November last year, Verizon announced layoffs of 13,000 employees and the conversion of 179 company-owned retail stores into franchises.
