According to a report by Bijie Network: UK regulators are re-examining the classification standards for professional investors, acknowledging that current quantitative criteria such as portfolio size (set at 500,000 euros under MiFID) or financial industry experience are flawed. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has proposed eliminating these numerical tests in favor of more reliable qualitative assessments to gauge clients' understanding of risk. Critics point out contradictions in the entire classification system, as retail investors are restricted from investing in crypto derivatives and similar products, yet can participate in gambling or highly volatile stock trading and other high-risk activities. This debate highlights the tension between investor protection and market freedom.
