Pound Sterling Reaches Five-Month Peak Against Euro
On Monday, the British Pound (GBP) strengthened, with the GBP/EUR exchange rate climbing to its highest point in five months. This surge followed an upward revision of the UK's final manufacturing PMI for January, which marked its best performance since August 2024.
After a period of stability on Tuesday, Sterling gained further ground on Wednesday, setting a new high against the Euro as the UK's services PMI was released. Despite a minor downward revision, the services sector continued to expand robustly. However, mounting political uncertainty soon began to weigh on the Pound, as Prime Minister Keir Starmer encountered growing criticism regarding a previous appointment.
