ECB’s Villeroy: Downward Inflation Risks “Slightly Greater” Than Upward Risks
ECB’s Villeroy Highlights Slightly Greater Downside Inflation Risks
François Villeroy de Galhau, a member of the European Central Bank’s Governing Council, remarked on Tuesday that the risks of inflation falling below expectations currently outweigh the chances of it rising above forecasts. He also expressed confidence in the ECB’s current stance, describing it as favorable.
During an interview with the French newspaper Les Echos, Villeroy—who also serves as the governor of the Banque de France—discussed his decision to step down from his role. He explained, “For quite some time, I have considered pursuing a mission in the social sector after my tenure at the Banque de France.” He added that Jean-Marc Sauvé, president of the Fondation Apprentis d'Auteuil, approached him last autumn regarding such an opportunity.
