Cattle Market Update: Prices Decline on Tuesday
On Tuesday, live cattle futures experienced declines ranging from 20 to 80 cents across most contracts. The cash cattle market remained inactive on Monday, following last week's settlements at $240 to $244 in northern regions and $242 to $245 in the south. Feeder cattle futures also saw notable losses, dropping between $1 and $2.67. The CME Feeder Cattle Index decreased by 83 cents, reaching $373.83 as of February 6.
Wholesale Beef and Slaughter Data
Tuesday afternoon's wholesale boxed beef report showed mixed results. The spread between Choice and Select widened to $4.65. Choice boxed beef slipped by 21 cents to $367.55, while Select boxes fell $2.45 to $362.90. According to USDA estimates, federally inspected cattle slaughter totaled 116,000 head for Tuesday, bringing the weekly count to 223,000 head—matching last week's figure and exceeding the same period last year by 4,183 head.
