IMF urges the United States to cooperate and reduce trade restrictions
Show original
Gelonghui, February 26|According to CCTV, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released the United States 2026 Article IV Consultation Statement on the 25th, stating that the US should engage in constructive cooperation with its trading partners to address concerns about unfair trade practices and strive to reach consensus on reducing trade restrictions that have negative cross-border impacts. The statement noted that when trade and investment measures, including tariffs and export controls, are implemented for national security reasons, such policies should be kept relatively narrow in scope to minimize their negative impact both domestically and internationally. The statement also indicated that raising tariffs is a measure that distorts productive resources, disrupts global supply chains, undermines the benefits of global trade, and increases costs.
