German inflation drops to under 2% again
German Inflation Drops Below ECB Target in February
In February, Germany's national inflation rate dipped to 1.9% year-over-year, falling beneath the European Central Bank's 2% goal and down from 2.1% in January. The harmonized European inflation rate also eased slightly, reaching 2.0% year-over-year compared to 2.1% the previous month. Meanwhile, both core inflation and services inflation remained steady at 2.5% and 3.2% year-over-year, respectively.
Regional data indicates that the decrease in overall inflation was largely due to reduced price increases for food and continued positive effects from lower energy costs. However, rising prices for clothing and footwear helped prevent a larger decline in inflation.
