Spain urges the launch of the digital euro by 2028 to reduce reliance on the US payment system

Jinse Finance reported that the Spanish government has called for the official launch of the digital euro to be brought forward to 2028, one year earlier than the current official target of 2029. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated in a competitiveness strategy document submitted to European Council President António Costa that Europe needs to establish a "sovereign payment architecture," noting that the significant growth of stablecoin financial intermediation activities backed by the US dollar has increased the urgency of advancing the project.
