Bitcoin ZK-rollup project Citrea announces the establishment of a foundation
Foresight News reported that the bitcoin ZK-rollup project Citrea has announced the establishment of an independent non-profit organization, the Citrea Foundation, dedicated to supporting the growth and decentralization of bitcoin's programmable future. The foundation will fund cryptographic research to build trustless bitcoin bridges, and empower the open-source community and developers by providing strategic resources and running grant programs. The foundation's board consists of Chainway Labs co-founders Orkun Kilic, Murat Karademir, and an independent non-executive director based in the Cayman Islands.
According to previous Foresight News reports, Citrea completed a $14 million Series A financing in October 2024, led by Founders Fund, founded by billionaire Peter Thiel, aiming to enable smart contracts on bitcoin through BitVM.
