Among the 11 sectors of the S&P 500 Index, the consumer staples sector closed down 1.35%, the consumer discretionary sector fell 1.09%, the information technology/technology sector rose 0.91%, and the industrial sector increased 0.98%. The energy sector rose 1.95% to 871.79 points, marking a record closing high for the second consecutive trading day.
