Customers of Sony Bank to Buy JPYC Stablecoin From Bank Accounts
JPYC Inc. and Sony Bank entered into a strategic partnership under which the JPYC stablecoin, pegged to the Japanese yen, will be integrated into the bank’s infrastructure, allowing users to purchase tokens directly from their accounts.
Japanese FinTech company JPYC Inc. announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with one of the region’s largest online banks, Sony Bank. The agreement aims to launch an instant debit mechanism enabling customers to buy JPYC on the JPYC EX platform directly from their Sony Bank accounts. Users won’t need to initiate a separate transfer, the transaction will be processed within the service in real time.
The JPYC stablecoin was launched in October 2025 in accordance with Japan’s updated Payment Services Act, which formally recognizes stablecoins as a form of electronic payment instrument. The token is backed by the Japanese yen at a 1:1 ratio, with reserves consisting of bank deposits and government bonds. JPYC operates on Avalanche, Ethereum, and Polygon.
In addition to instant purchases, the parties are also considering implementing a recurring automatic top-up feature. The solution’s architecture will be based on principles of openness and scalability, without being tied to a single financial institution.
Another area of cooperation involves the use of JPYC in digital services, including music and gaming content. The companies also plan to expand the stablecoin’s use for payments for digital products and additional services.
Project coordination is being handled by BlockBloom, a subsidiary of Sony Bank established to develop blockchain initiatives.
In 2025, major Japanese financial institutions began developing their own stablecoins. However, JPYC became the first fully regulated stablecoin in Japan pegged to the national currency.
