Key Trade Figures for January
In January, the seasonally adjusted trade balance for goods fell by $742 million. Export values declined by $415 million (a 0.9% drop), mainly due to lower figures in other rural products. Meanwhile, imports rose by $328 million (up 0.8%), with non-monetary gold being the primary contributor.

For certain commodities, shifts in unit values reflect both changes in US dollar prices reported to Home Affairs and fluctuations in the exchange rate between the Australian and US dollars.
