What the increase in the US Dollar this week signifies
The Dollar’s Global Role Remains Strong
Since President Trump assumed office in January of last year, the US Dollar has consistently weakened against other leading global currencies. Many point to this decline as a sign that the Dollar’s dominance as the world’s reserve currency is slipping. However, available data does not support this claim. According to an IMF survey, international reserve managers maintained their US Dollar holdings at unchanged levels throughout 2025, despite significant policy uncertainty over the past year. This stability highlights just how difficult it would be for the US to lose its reserve currency status. Such resilience seems logical, given the Dollar’s entrenched position in the global financial system.
