Shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has nearly come to a standstill, with only one sanctioned oil tanker daring to pass through.

BlockBeats News, March 6th – Due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, shipping activities in the Strait of Hormuz have come to a near complete halt. Vessel tracking data shows that in the past 24 hours, no oil tankers have passed through the strait, with only two general cargo ships making the transit.

According to reports, a liquefied gas supertanker named Danuta I, which was sanctioned by the United States for transporting Iranian liquefied petroleum gas, crossed the strait in the early hours of Friday local time, becoming one of the few vessels to have recently navigated this route. Data indicates that after loading cargo in the Persian Gulf, the vessel departed and experienced abnormal AIS signals or switched off its transponder during the voyage, suspected to be an attempt to evade tracking by hiding its route.

The Panama-based shipowner, Ithaki Maritime and Trading, has very little public information and is believed to be associated with the "shadow fleet." Analysts suggest that with Danuta I successfully making the passage, more sanctioned or shadow fleet tankers may risk crossing the strait in the future.

The Bahrain-based Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) stated that due to escalating regional conflicts, dozens of oil and gas tankers are currently forced to remain in the Persian Gulf, severely impacting energy transportation to Asia and Europe. Meanwhile, incidents of vessel attacks continue to occur frequently in waters near the strait, and the reduction in war risk insurance coverage has made commercial shipowners generally unwilling to risk passage.
