Golden Ten Data reported on March 7, citing Reuters, that U.S. Democratic Senator Mark Kelly proposed on Friday local time to suspend the federal gasoline tax of 18.4 cents per gallon until October 1, in order to help Americans facing rising oil prices due to the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict. According to AAA, the travel organization that tracks fuel prices in the U.S., national gasoline prices have risen by 35 cents over the past week, reaching an average of $3.32 per gallon. Political analysts say that the continued rise in gasoline prices could be detrimental to Trump's Republican colleagues in the November midterm elections, as they strive to maintain their majority in Congress. Kelly plans to introduce the bill in the Senate next week. Once passed, the U.S. Treasury Department will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the tax suspension, ensuring that the saved tax funds are truly used to lower gasoline prices and benefit consumers.
