Supply and demand pressures: Southeast Asia's electricity may face challenges in the next three months
Show original
According to Golden Ten Data on March 9, foreign media reported that Southeast Asia is expected to experience a warmer early summer than usual, which may increase electricity demand and put pressure on the power grid. Power generation in Southeast Asia mainly relies on fossil fuels, and the Middle East conflict has already tightened energy supplies in the region. High temperatures will further exacerbate the supply-demand imbalance. According to the latest seasonal outlook from the ASEAN Specialized Meteorological Centre, most maritime and continental areas of Southeast Asia will see above-average temperatures from March to May, with Indonesia and Malaysia having an 80%-100% probability of temperatures above normal. This unseasonal heat is likely to first spread in these two countries and is expected to expand to most of mainland Southeast Asia over the following two months. Most parts of northern Thailand and Vietnam will also be scorched by high temperatures.
