Maximizing Your Stock Market Success with Zacks Premium

No matter your background or investing experience, making the most of the stock market and investing with assurance are universal ambitions. Zacks Premium provides a variety of tools to help you achieve these goals.

This well-regarded research platform empowers investors to make informed decisions by offering daily updates on the Zacks Rank and Industry Rank, access to the exclusive Zacks #1 Rank List, in-depth equity analysis, and advanced stock screening features.

Subscribers also benefit from the Zacks Style Scores, a unique resource for evaluating stocks.

Understanding Zacks Style Scores

The Zacks Style Scores system evaluates stocks according to three widely followed investment strategies, serving as a valuable supplement to the Zacks Rank. By combining these indicators, investors can better identify stocks with the greatest potential to outperform the market in the short term.

Each stock receives a grade—A, B, C, D, or F—based on its value, growth, and momentum attributes. Higher grades indicate a stronger likelihood of outperformance, with A being the highest and F the lowest.

The Style Scores are divided into four main categories:

Value Score

Value-focused investors seek out undervalued stocks before the broader market recognizes their true worth. The Value Score highlights the most attractively priced stocks using metrics such as price-to-earnings, price-to-earnings-growth, price-to-sales, and price-to-cash-flow ratios, among others.

Growth Score

Growth investors prioritize companies with robust financial health and promising prospects. The Growth Score assesses factors like projected and historical earnings, revenue, and cash flow to pinpoint businesses poised for sustained expansion.

Momentum Score

Momentum investing is centered on capitalizing on prevailing trends in stock prices or earnings forecasts. The Momentum Score uses indicators such as recent price changes and shifts in earnings estimates to signal optimal moments to invest in high-momentum stocks.

VGM Score

For those seeking a blend of value, growth, and momentum, the VGM Score offers a comprehensive rating by weighing all three styles. This score helps investors find stocks that excel across multiple dimensions and works especially well alongside the Zacks Rank.

How Style Scores Complement the Zacks Rank

The Zacks Rank is a proprietary rating system that leverages changes in earnings estimates to help investors build winning portfolios.

Since 1988, stocks rated #1 (Strong Buy) have delivered an average annual return of +23.86%, more than twice the S&P 500’s performance over the same period. However, with hundreds of stocks earning top ranks each day, narrowing down your choices can be challenging.

This is where the Style Scores become invaluable.

To maximize your chances of success, focus on stocks with a Zacks Rank of #1 or #2 and Style Scores of A or B. If you’re considering a stock with a #3 (Hold) rating, ensure it also has an A or B Style Score to enhance its potential.

Always pay attention to the direction of earnings estimate revisions, as the Style Scores are designed to work in tandem with the Zacks Rank.

For example, a stock rated #4 (Sell) or #5 (Strong Sell), even with high Style Scores, is likely facing negative earnings trends and may be at greater risk of price declines.

Owning more stocks with top Zacks Ranks and high Style Scores can significantly improve your portfolio’s prospects.
