Amazon introduces its AI-powered healthcare assistant on both its website and mobile app
Amazon Broadens Health AI Access
On Tuesday, Amazon revealed that its Health AI assistant will now be available through both its website and app. Previously, this digital health tool was exclusive to One Medical’s app—a healthcare provider that Amazon purchased for $3.9 billion in 2023.
Features and Accessibility
Health AI offers a range of services, including answering health-related questions, clarifying medical records, handling prescription renewals, scheduling appointments, and more. According to Amazon, anyone can use Health AI—there’s no requirement to be a Prime subscriber or a One Medical member.
Personalized Guidance and Privacy Concerns
While Health AI can respond to general health inquiries without accessing your personal medical data, it’s built to deliver customized advice and connect users with healthcare professionals when needed. However, experts caution about the risks of sharing sensitive health information with AI, noting that companies may use user interactions for training purposes.
Amazon states in its press release that Health AI models are trained using anonymized data patterns rather than direct personal identifiers. For example, if several users ask about medication interactions, Amazon may use these trends to enhance Health AI’s responses, while keeping individual identities confidential.
Security and Data Protection
All conversations with Health AI occur in a HIPAA-compliant environment, protected by encryption and strict access controls. Despite these assurances, Amazon has not detailed the encryption methods or specified who can access these conversations. TechCrunch has requested further information.
If you choose to share your health information with Health AI, Amazon utilizes the Health Information Exchange—a secure, nationwide system for transferring patient medical records.

How Health AI Assists
With access to your medical data, Health AI can interpret lab results, diagnoses, and health records to deliver accurate, tailored answers about your symptoms and medications.
For those needing professional care, Health AI can connect you with a One Medical provider. Prime members in the U.S. can receive up to five free direct-message consultations for over 30 common conditions, such as colds, allergies, acid reflux, pink eye, urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, skin care, hair loss, and more. Non-Prime users can access One Medical providers on a pay-per-visit basis.
Getting Started with Health AI
To sign up, visit the Amazon Health page. As Amazon rolls out access, users will be notified by email when they can use the assistant.
Once granted access, users must create or log into their Amazon Health profile. They can then begin chatting with Health AI by typing their health questions on Amazon.com or via the app.
- “Can you explain my recent cholesterol results and what they mean for me?”
- “I’m feeling congested and have a sore throat. What should I do?”
AI in Healthcare: Industry Trends
Amazon’s move to expand Health AI comes as other major AI platforms enter the healthcare arena. In January, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health, a specialized chatbot for health questions. Shortly after, Anthropic introduced Claude for Healthcare, its own healthcare-focused AI solution.
