The United States pushes to restart California oil pipelines, claiming it aims to reduce dependence on energy exports through the Strait of Hormuz.

Golden Ten Data reported on March 14 that, according to foreign media, U.S. Secretary of Energy Wright took action on Friday to counter two major “adversaries” of the Trump administration: oil supply disruptions caused by the Iran war, and California Governor Gavin Newsom. Wright issued an order to clear obstacles for a company operating near the California coast to restart an oil pipeline that had been shut down by state officials since 2015. The Department of Energy characterized this move as a way to reduce reliance on oil imports through the Strait of Hormuz. The Department of Energy wrote in its announcement: “Today, more than 60% of the oil used by California refineries comes from overseas, a significant portion of which must be transported via the Strait of Hormuz—this poses a serious national security threat.” Wright stated in a declaration that this action will “strengthen America’s oil supply and restore a pipeline system critical to our national security and defense, ensuring that military facilities on the West Coast have reliable energy essential for combat readiness.”
