China assures Davos forum it has not sought a trade surplus and commits to increasing imports
China Expresses Openness to Global Trade
Speaking at the World Economic Forum on January 20, Vice Premier He Lifeng emphasized that China has not intentionally sought a trade surplus and is open to serving as a global marketplace. Addressing attendees in Davos, Switzerland, He highlighted China's readiness to make use of its vast consumer base and to actively increase imports.
"Our ambition goes beyond being the world's manufacturing hub; we are even more enthusiastic about becoming a major global market," He stated. The previous year saw strong international demand for Chinese products, reinforcing the country's position as the world's second-largest economy and raising concerns among some trade partners about the growing surplus.
