The U.S. Congress formally responds for the first time to Powell's investigation, with Democrats demanding Trump officials hand over records
Jinse Finance reported that two Democratic senators in the United States are demanding that Trump administration officials submit records related to the Department of Justice's criminal investigation of Federal Reserve Chairman Powell. This marks the first formal response from Congress regarding the subpoena received by the Federal Reserve earlier this month. According to letters sent on Tuesday seen by The Wall Street Journal, Massachusetts Senator Warren and Illinois Senator Durbin—the top Democrats on the Senate committees overseeing the Federal Reserve and the Department of Justice, respectively—have instructed two Trump administration officials to preserve documents and submit them to the Senate. These letters were sent to Attorney General Bundy and to “Fed critic” and Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Pulte. “This investigation appears to be a serious abuse of power,” the two senators wrote in their letter to Pulte. The Democrats’ request is not legally binding, but it may lay the groundwork for a more formal investigation in the future.
