Report: Web3 security incidents in January caused approximately $414 million in economic losses
PANews reported on February 6 that, according to the latest report from GoPlus, Web3 suffered economic losses of $414,639,606 due to major security incidents in January 2026. The types of security incidents included smart contract vulnerabilities, social engineering attacks, phishing attacks, honey pot scams, rugpulls, and more.
Among them, exploits (including contract attacks, social engineering fraud, private key leaks, etc.) caused losses of $375,808,603 across 20 major incidents. Phishing attacks resulted in total losses of approximately $20 million, with around 5,000 victims. During the month, 390 new honey pot tokens (HoneyPot) were detected on ETH, Base, and BSC, a decrease compared to December.
