ECB Official Expects Inflation to Settle Near 2% Target
Fabio Panetta, a member of the European Central Bank's Governing Council and the head of Italy's central bank, stated on Saturday that inflation in the eurozone is projected to stabilize close to the ECB’s 2% goal over the coming years. Speaking at the 32nd ASSIOM FOREX Congress in Venice, Panetta noted that forecasts from the Eurosystem indicate inflation may dip just below the target for a period before gradually returning to the desired level.
He also cautioned that there are still considerable risks that could push inflation either higher or lower. Factors such as energy market developments and geopolitical tensions could drive up prices by affecting commodity costs and disrupting supply chains.
