DD's MemCor MBR Selected for Wastewater Treatment Expansion in the UK
DuPont's MemCor MBR Selected for Major UK Wastewater Upgrade
United Utilities has selected DuPont de Nemours, Inc. to provide its MemCor membrane bioreactor (MBR) systems for a significant expansion of wastewater treatment at three sites in North West England.
The MemCor MBR technology will be implemented at the Eccles, Salford, and Wigan facilities following a competitive selection process. This upgrade will enable these plants to comply with more rigorous discharge regulations and produce higher-quality treated water. Notably, the Wigan site, which serves over 437,000 residents, will become the largest MBR facility in the United Kingdom.
Membrane bioreactor systems integrate activated sludge processes with membrane filtration, resulting in enhanced effluent quality and greater operational efficiency. This advanced technology provides consistent performance, adaptability, reduced maintenance, and robust treatment capabilities, strengthening the UK's wastewater infrastructure.
By adopting MBR technology early and at scale within the Asset Management Plan (AMP), United Utilities expects to benefit from cost efficiencies, quicker implementation, improved standardization, and long-term operational advantages. With over three decades of experience and more than 300 installations worldwide, MemCor MBR is recognized for its reliability, effectiveness, and cost savings. DuPont Water Solutions offers a wide range of innovative purification technologies supporting sectors such as power generation, lithium extraction, and green hydrogen production.
Over the past year, DD shares have fallen 37.7%, compared to an 11.7% decline for the broader chemical industry.
