Qualcomm Expands Utility Sector Reach with Anterix Partnership

Qualcomm Incorporated (QCOM) is strengthening its foothold in the utility and critical infrastructure sector through a new collaboration with Anterix Inc. (ATEX), a prominent provider of private wireless broadband spectrum for utilities. This alliance is designed to accelerate the rollout of advanced private wireless networks for utility companies throughout the United States.

Under this partnership, Qualcomm will deliver robust IoT chipsets tailored for large-scale utility applications, further establishing its position in mission-critical connectivity. The Snapdragon SDX35-3 and SDX32-3 IoT modems from Qualcomm will provide both 4G and 5G cellular capabilities on Anterix’s 900 MHz network, empowering utilities to implement smart grid-edge solutions, boost operational transparency, and improve network dependability.

Qualcomm’s IoT modem lineup also features the Snapdragon X62, which offers efficient, high-speed 5G connectivity ideal for extensive utility and industrial use. Additionally, the 9205S modem supports both cellular and satellite connections, delivering low-power, long-lasting performance to ensure reliable service for smart meters, asset management, and grid monitoring.

The demand for private wireless and industrial IoT solutions is rapidly increasing as utility providers transition to secure, low-latency LTE and 5G networks. Companies such as Easymetering have begun integrating Qualcomm’s SDX35-3 modem into advanced metering and grid-edge technologies, reinforcing Qualcomm’s commitment to smarter, more resilient utility operations.

Competitive Landscape

Qualcomm competes with major players like Intel Corporation (INTC) and Broadcom Inc. (AVGO). Intel is expanding its influence in the utility and infrastructure market by promoting AI-powered edge computing and durable processors for smart grid and industrial automation. The company has also deepened its collaboration with Siemens to deliver secure, real-time edge and AI solutions for energy infrastructure.

Broadcom, on the other hand, provides networking, broadband, and custom chip solutions to support reliable communications for industrial and grid applications. Its software platforms are also leveraged to enhance network security, resilience, and operational efficiency for utility providers.
