Bank of Japan explores wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC)
Jinse Finance reported that for many years, the Bank of Japan has been conducting a retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) research project, which involves seven working groups and 64 companies. Although there were comments last year suggesting that there was no need to launch a CBDC, the research continues. At the ongoing CBDC forum, the Governor of the Bank of Japan stated that the scope of research will be expanded to wholesale CBDC and the tokenization field.
