Ross launches additional locations across Southern California

Ross and dd's Discounts Expand Presence in Southern California

Southern California has welcomed two new discount retailers: a second Ross Dress for Less location has opened in Alhambra, and North Hollywood is now home to a new dd's Discounts store.

These store launches are part of a larger nationwide growth strategy by Ross Stores Inc., headquartered in Dublin, California. The company plans to open approximately 85 new Ross Dress for Less stores and 25 dd's Discounts locations across the United States in 2026.

“We are excited to begin our 2026 expansion by opening new stores that deliver exceptional value to our customers and create employment opportunities in communities nationwide,” stated Richard Lietz, executive vice president of property development at Ross Stores.

Lietz attributed the decision to open 110 new stores this year to the strong performance of new locations in 2025.

Last year, Ross Stores added 90 new outlets, including a second store on Market Street in downtown San Francisco.

The new Ross Dress for Less in Alhambra is located at 600 East Valley Blvd., just a short drive from the city’s original store. The dd's Discounts in North Hollywood can be found at 12711 Sherman Way. Both locations are open every day.

Ross Stores has been listed on the Nasdaq since 1985.

According to a November investor report, Ross Dress for Less caters to a broad spectrum of shoppers, especially women, who are seeking bargains for various reasons. Dd's Discounts, launched in 2004, is aimed at younger, diverse customers from low- to moderate-income backgrounds who are looking for affordable deals.

For the 2025 fiscal year, Ross Stores reported a net income of $2.1 billion, maintaining similar results to the previous year, as detailed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Currently, Ross operates around 1,900 stores in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Guam, and Puerto Rico, while dd's Discounts has about 370 locations in 23 states.

Discount Retailers See Growth Amid Economic Challenges

As inflation remains high, many value-focused retailers—including Aldi, Dollar General, and Trader Joe’s—have rapidly expanded to meet the needs of budget-conscious shoppers in a K-shaped economy.

However, not all discount chains are growing. Emeryville-based Grocery Outlet recently revealed plans to close 36 stores by year’s end due to overexpansion.
