SONO Expands Its Lineup With Introduction of Sonos Play and Era 100 SL
Sonos Expands Its Home Audio Lineup with New Releases
Sonos, Inc. is strengthening its position in the home audio market by focusing on a seamlessly integrated sound ecosystem. The company has announced the launch of two new products—Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL—designed to enhance the user experience by allowing their audio systems to evolve over time, rather than requiring frequent hardware replacements.
Pre-orders for these new devices began on March 10, 2026, through Sonos’ official website and selected retailers. The products will be widely available starting March 31, 2026. The Sonos Play is priced at $299, while the Sonos Era 100 SL will retail for $189.
Introducing Sonos Play: Versatility Meets Portability
The Sonos Play stands out as the brand’s most adaptable speaker, merging the high-quality sound expected from a home speaker with the convenience of portability. It delivers immersive stereo sound, whether used solo or paired with another unit for a true stereo experience. When connected to Wi-Fi, Sonos Play integrates into the broader Sonos system, enabling users to synchronize audio across multiple rooms or set up stereo pairs for cohesive sound throughout the home.
Designed with mobility in mind, Sonos Play offers up to 24 hours of battery life, making it ideal for outdoor gatherings, travel, or extended listening sessions. It features a detachable utility loop for easy transport and boasts an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, ensuring durability in various environments. A built-in power bank allows users to charge their smartphones directly from the speaker, adding extra convenience for those on the move.
One of the most notable innovations is the ability to group speakers using Bluetooth when away from a Wi-Fi network. Traditionally, Sonos speakers required Wi-Fi for multi-room playback, but with Sonos Play, users can connect their phone via Bluetooth and link up to three additional Sonos Play or Move 2 speakers by holding the play/pause button. This creates a portable, synchronized audio system without needing a home network, expanding Sonos’ reach beyond the living room.
Audio quality remains a priority, with Automatic Trueplay tuning that adjusts the sound based on the environment for optimal performance indoors or outdoors. The Play speaker also emphasizes sustainability, featuring efficient power management and a replaceable battery to extend its lifespan and minimize electronic waste.
Era 100 SL: Streamlined Simplicity for Everyday Listening
While the Sonos Play focuses on flexibility and mobility, the Era 100 SL is designed for simplicity and ease of use. This new model is a microphone-free version of the popular Era 100, catering to those who prefer privacy and do not require voice assistant features. By removing microphones and simplifying certain aspects, Sonos offers a more affordable entry point into its ecosystem.
Despite its straightforward design, the Era 100 SL delivers robust, room-filling sound and maintains the essential features that define the Sonos experience. Users can connect via Wi-Fi, stream music from over 100 supported services, and integrate the speaker into a multi-room setup with other Sonos devices. Sonos continues to collaborate with industry partners and listens to user feedback to refine its products.
All Sonos speakers are tuned with input from the Sonos Soundboard, a group of professionals from music, film, and other creative fields, ensuring that the audio remains true to the creator’s vision.
