ECB No. 2 position secured by Vujcic, marking a win for Eastern Europe
Boris Vujcic to Become ECB Vice President, Marking a First for Eastern Europe
Boris Vujcic, the head of Croatia's central bank, is poised to step into the role of vice president at the European Central Bank. This appointment will make him the first representative from Eastern Europe to serve on the ECB’s Executive Board.
Vujcic, aged 61, received the endorsement of eurozone finance ministers on Monday to take over from Luis de Guindos, whose term concludes at the end of May. This move signals the beginning of a two-year period of changes within the ECB’s six-member leadership team, according to Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis. “Everything is in place for Boris Vujcic to assume his duties at the ECB starting June 1,” Pierrakakis, who also serves as Greece’s finance minister, stated.
