Where and What: Changing Patterns in Canadian Goods Exports
Shifting Trends in Canadian Exports
Canada's approach to international trade has shifted as the country seeks to broaden its network of trading partners. Although exports to the United States have declined, the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) still ensures that most goods sent south benefit from tariff-free entry. However, certain sectors—such as steel and aluminum—have been hit hard by targeted Section 232 tariffs, resulting in a notable drop in shipments.
Outside of the U.S. market, there has been a marked increase in exports of commodities and precious metals. This evolving export landscape has particularly favored provinces rich in natural resources, introducing new regional dynamics to Canada's trade prospects. As of November, these trends continue to shape the country's export profile.
