Japan's second largest bank sees stock price plunge due to exposure to UK MFS risks
Golden Ten Data reported on March 4 that the share price of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, Japan's second-largest bank, once fell by 8.3%, marking the largest drop since April last year, before recovering part of the losses. Previously, reports indicated that its banking subsidiary had significant risk exposure to Market Financial Solutions, a UK company whose bankruptcy has affected multiple financial institutions. Competitors Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Mizuho Financial Group both saw their share prices drop by more than 5%, while the Tokyo Stock Exchange Bank Index also fell by over 6%. According to sources, Sumitomo Mitsui Bank's risk exposure to MFS is approximately 100 million pounds. MFS is a company that provides loans and financing for retail sales, and entered bankruptcy administration after serious fraud allegations, including allegedly pledging the same asset multiple times.
